Early Links Virtual Playgroup
By Gavin Rae
Early Links Playgroup is a free community playgroup for children aged six and under. It is held at Maitland Presbyterian Church during normal circumstances, but the current period of lockdown has meant this is not possible.
Virtual playgroup during lockdown
Our ever-innovative Playgroup team were not deterred by this challenge and quickly realised that a virtual playgroup would be the best way for playgroup to continue. Playgroup provides local families with a vital connection to their community. It was perhaps more important than ever for us to continue to provide this support during lockdown, which can be very isolating by its very nature.
What is a virtual playgroup?
Every Thursday morning from 9.30 am, the Early Links Playgroup team connect with families by video call. The team engage children by playing games, reading stories, having dress-ups, singing songs, demonstrating fun activities such as science experiments and much more.
How can we take part?
We share a registration link on the Early Links Facebook Page every week so you can let us know that you will be joining in. The beauty of virtual playgroup is that distance is not an issue, and so you can join in if you live in Maitland, Kurri Kurri, Muswellbrook and beyond!

When will Early Links Playgroup be face to face again?
We are optimistic that it will be possible for playgroup to return to being face to face again in the not-too-distant future. We are closely monitoring the COVID situation and will keep you informed of our plans as the situation develops and restrictions change. The Early Links Playgroup Team can’t wait to see you again and welcome you all back once circumstances improve.
