One of the highlights of 2022 has been the Big Yellow Bus travelling to Muswellbrook each fortnight, thanks to the generous support of Glencore – Ravensworth Open Cut. We absolutely love the curious looks and waves we get when the Big Yellow Bus hits the road. It’s not every day you drive past a mobile playground in the form of an old school bus!

MyTime in Muswellbrook

The Big Yellow Bus travels to Muswellbrook every second Tuesday as part of MyTime, our support group for parents and carers of children with additional needs. MyTime is a chance for these parents and carers to take a moment for themselves while our experienced team runs activities and supervises children as they play, learn and socialise. When in attendance, the Big Yellow Bus is undoubtedly the star of the show! Each week, parents and carers see their children’s faces light up as they try the flying fox for the first time, brave the rock climbing wall or come down the slide all by themselves.

“It’s great to hang out with other parents of children with additional needs. You don’t feel alone, knowing there are other families going through a similar experience.” – David, MyTime regular.

Making a real difference

Hosting MyTime is an essential part of what we do at Early Links. It is a time designed to ensure our devoted parents and carers feel heard by giving them a place to share their stories and experiences. It is also a beautiful chance for families to build a social support network, as they connect with others who understand the joys and challenges of caring for a child with additional needs. Bringing the Big Yellow Bus along allows us to host MyTime outdoors in the sunshine and creates a unique experience for families, a world away from appointments and therapy.

David, a father of three children with additional needs, regularly attends MyTime with his family. “We are so grateful for MyTime and the Big Yellow Bus. There is honestly nothing like it in terms of the support it provides for our family.”

Proudly supported by Glencore – Ravensworth Open Cut

We are thrilled to announce that Ravensworth Open Cut has offered to continue its support for the Big Yellow Bus again this year, meaning our star attraction will continue to travel to Muswellbrook each fortnight for MyTime. The Big Yellow Bus means a lot to Early Links and the families we support, so we are incredibly grateful to Klay and the entire team at Ravensworth Open Cut for their generosity. We would also like to thank Playgroup NSW for funding MyTime.
